Protecting Energy, Preserving Strength

Donkeys instinctively avoid rain because their coats absorb water, making them heavy and uncomfortable. Instead of forcing themselves into draining conditions, they wisely stay sheltered. Leaders, too, understand this truth: real strength is not about enduring every environment, but about choosing the right ones that protect energy and preserve focus.
Not every space is nourishing, and not every crowd is uplifting. Just as donkeys avoid rain, leaders avoid environments, habits, or influences that drain their energy. They learn to walk away from negativity, distractions, or toxic settings—not out of fear, but out of wisdom to stay strong for the journey ahead.
Conserving energy is not weakness; it is strategy. A leader who wastes energy in the wrong place has less strength to give where it truly matters. Protecting one’s mental, emotional, and physical energy is the foundation of sustained leadership.
This does not mean avoiding challenges altogether. It means distinguishing between challenges that build resilience and environments that only drain without adding value. Leaders rise higher by choosing spaces that fuel their growth and relationships that strengthen their spirit.
Like donkeys that stay dry to keep moving forward, leaders remind us that energy is precious. By guarding it wisely, they ensure they always have the strength to serve, guide, and inspire. Protecting energy is not selfish—it is essential for lasting impact.
